A defence minister has confirmed that the MoD is currently investigating the possible threats associated with Chinese cars, and personnel have been told to refrain from talking about secret information in all vehicles.

During a recent appearance on a radio station, a defence minister commented on claims that MoD staff have been instructed not to discuss classified material while riding in Chinese cars.
He said that the MoD is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, but noted that security is a concern in every contemporary cars.
Our department has a fleet of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a very small number.
But whether you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting MoD devices into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a classified level in any kind of car, because of the growing threats of surveillance that are present in every single automobile, to restrict those confidential conversations in secure locations. This is a wise and reasonable thing for anyone worried about security.
After it was suggested that it would be prudent for the ministry to cease using every cars from China, Pollard responded: That is precisely what we’re investigating at the moment.”
